At a little after noon, the chime on the top of the door calls my attention to it’s opening. I’d been watching the clock like a lunatic, waiting for Conner to cross the street and come over to my domain, all morning. Seeing him walk in, confidently, with a sweater-vest covering a long-sleeved white, button-up, shirt and tan, dress pants. His hair combed to pretty-boy, perfection and the smile he was wearing just for me, was enough to make me forget any and everything I had just been doing. Luckily, I had finished my last appointment with a few extra minutes to spare and started wiping down my area with anti-bacterial and flowered scented wipes; but this was the first time he’d ventured over here and I was kind of proud to be able to show him what I did, every day.

I waved for him to come on back and noticed Layla, Jinx and Jody had all let him pass without saying a word; just a knowing smirk and a smartass grin that I know I’d be paying for later. Unfortunately, Kingsley was also here and wasn’t having any of this tunnel vision the two of us seemed to have.

“Holyfield’s here!” He whooped, breaking us of the eye contact we’d maintained since he walked in. His smile fled his face and I could see the pink stain his cheeks. I wanted to throw something heavy and sharp at Kings head.

“Hey.” Conner said, shyly, aware of everyone staring at him now that he’d stopped in the middle of the room.

“Keep going.” Kingsley announced, making everyone laugh. Everyone except me and of course, Conner. He was looking uncertain now and I hated that; I wanted him to be comfortable coming over here because I’d hoped that this wouldn’t be a one-time thing.
